No Oysters And No Life Insurance in Life Insurance News

As I am a researcher (your faithful reporter) on the subject of life insurance and I am in charge of writing about the it weekly (to educate you about what matters), once in a while I come across a funny (but actually sad) news. It is not too often these type of stories come afloat because you know, life insurance is a serious subject, but once in a while I get a laugh out of some strange story on the news.

Remember the chili finger story a while ago? well, here is something similar in the context of  “people will do anything for a buck” (or millions of them) for that matter.

So a couple were charged in federal court in Sioux Falls (yep I had to google that one), if you did not know like me, it is located in South Dakota. The story goes that they faked the husband’s death to collect on (all together repeat after me) “life insurance”

There were not too young (you would guess younger people tend to take higher risks). She was 39 and him? a whooping 45 years old. They pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud. Lucky her – she was freed on bond while the husband was being held without bond (guess who is not eating oysters tonight?).

Can you really die if you eat a bad oyster? Apparently mister 45 years old did.

The wife claimed that her husband had died after eating bad oysters in Malaysia in 2003 and hear this, she settled the insurance case with two life insurance companies for $2 million.

It all goes down (I like it!)

FBI agents informed Sioux Falls-based Midland National Life about a year ago that the husband came into the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, and asked to renew his passport. The man was arrested in Guam last month.

(I am clapping right now) – no life insurance cash for these two – and I guess no oysters for a long time either.
